True and false followers (Shi’ah)

Question:

What do the infallible (a.) teach about the followership of the Ahl-ul-Bait (شيعة أهل البيت عليهم السلام) ?

Answer: 

Mu’awiyah Ibn Wahb reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,The followers are three: an attached lover and this one is from us and the one, who is adorned by us and we serve as adornment to him, who has been adorned by us and the one, who exploits through us from the people and the one who exploits through us, has become miserable.” [Al-Khisal of As-Saduq, page 103 Hadith 61]

حدثنا حمزة بن محمد بن أحمد العلوي رضي الله عنه قال: أخبرني علي ابن إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن خالد البرقي، عن خلف بن حماد، عن معاوية ابن وهب قال: قال أبو عبد الله عليه السلام: الشيعة ثلاث محب واد فهو منا ومتزين بنا ونحن زين لمن تزين بنا ومستأكل بنا الناس ومن استأكل بنا افتقر

[1.] The true followers and lovers

Al-Husain (a.) reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: ,,I expressed my discontent to Prophet Muhammad (s.) for the one who was envious of me. So he said: ,,O Ali, are you not satisfied that the first four people to enter Paradise are you and me? Our descendants are behind us, and our followers (Shi’ah) follow us on our right and left sides.” [Al-Khisal of As-Saduq, page 254 Hadith 128]

حدثنا علي بن محمد بن الحسن القزويني قال: أخبرنا عبد الله بن زيدان قال: حدثنا الحسن بن محمد قال: حدثنا حسن بن حسين قال: حدثنا يحيى بن مساور عن أبي خالد عن زيد بن علي، عن آبائه، عن علي عليهم السلام قال: شكوت إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله حسد من يحسدني فقال: يا علي أما ترضى أن أول أربعة يدخلون الجنة أنا وأنت، وذرارينا خلف ظهورنا، وشيعتنا عن أيماننا وشمائلنا

Jabir Ibn Buraid reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: ,,The Wife of the Messenger, Umm Salamah, was asked about Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.) and she said that she heard Prophet Muhammad say: ,,Ali and his followers (Shi’ah) are the successful ones.“ [Al-Irshad of Al-Mufid, Volume 1 Pages 41-42]

أخبرني أبو عبيد الله محمد بن عمران المرزباني، قال: حدثني علي بن محمد بن عبيد الحافظ قال: حدثنا علي بن الحسين بن عبيد الكوفي قال: حدثنا إسماعيل بن أبان، عن سعد بن طالب، عن جابر بن يزيد، عن محمد بن علي الباقر عليهما السلام قال: سئلت أم سلمة زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وآله عن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام فقالت: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله يقول: إن عليا وشيعته هم الفائزون

Jabir Al-Ansari reported that Prophet Muhammad (s.) said to Imam Ali (a.): ,,You are the best creature and your followers (Shi’ah) are pleased with God and He is pleased with them.“ [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 35 Page 346 Hadith 20]

تفسير فرات بن إبراهيم: أحمد بن عيسى بن هارون معنعنا، عن جابر الأنصاري – رضي الله عنه – أن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله قال لعلي عليه السلام: خير البرية أنت وشيعتك راضين مرضيين

Zain-ul-Abidin (a.) reported that Imam Al-Hasan (a.) said: ,,Ali (a.) was on the roof with his servant, Nawf Ash-Shami, and said: ,,O Nawf, (are you) a staring person or an attentive one?” He said: ,,An attentive staring person who is staring at you, o commander of the believers!” He said: ,,O Nawf, do you know who my followers are?” Nawf said: ,,No, by God.” The Commander of the Believers (a.) said: ,,My followers are those, who have dry lips and empty bellies. They are those, whom when you look at their faces, they reject the worldly and devote themselves to worship. They are ascetics in the night and lions in the day.” [Mawsu’at Ahadith Ahl Al-Bait by Hadi An-Najafi, Vol. 11 Page 241 Hadith 6]

الكراجكي، عن محمد بن طالب، عن أبي المفضل الشيباني، عن عبد الله ابن جعفر الأزدي، عن خالد بن يزيد الثقفي، عن أبيه، عن حنان بن سدير، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن علي، عن أبيه، عن جده عليهم السلام قال: قال علي لمولاه نوف الشامي وهو معه في السطح: يا نوف أرامق أم نبهان؟ قال: نبهان أرمقك يا أمير المؤمنين، قال: هل تدري من شيعتي؟ قال: لا والله، قال: شيعتي الذبل الشفاه، الخمص البطون، الذين تعرف الرهبانية والربانية في وجوههم، رهبان بالليل، أسد بالنهار

Al-Hasan Al-Askari (a.) reported that a man spoke to Imam Al-Hasan (a.): ,,O Son of the Messenger of God, I belong to your followers!” He said: ,,O Abdullah, if you are obedient to us with regards to our commands and prohibitions, then you will find yourself being confirmed, but if you act contrary to them, then do not add anything to your sins by ascribing to yourself an honoured rank, to which you do not belong to. Do not say: ,,I belong to your followers (Shi’ah)!” But say: ,,I belong to your admirers and lovers and an enemy of your enemies!” Then you are in the good and move towards the good.” [Tafsir Al-Askari, page 308 – 309 Hadith 153]

عن الإمام العسكري عليه السلام قال:  وقال رجل للحسن بن علي عليهما السلام: يا بن رسول الله أنا من شيعتكم. فقال الحسن بن علي عليهما السلام يا عبد الله إن كنت لنا في أوامرنا وزواجرنا مطيعا فقد صدقت، وإن كنت بخلاف ذلك فلا تزد في ذنوبك بدعواك مرتبة شريفة لست من أهلها لا تقل: أنا من شيعتكم، ولكن قل: أنا من مواليكم ومحبيكم، ومعادي أعدائكم، وأنت في خير، وإلى خير

Jabir reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: ,,O Jabir, is it sufficient, for those who claim to be our followers, to profess (only) with their lips that they love the people of the house? By God, no one is our follower except the one who fears God and obeys Him. O Jabir, they are recognized by nothing other than their modesty, devotion, the return of the entrusted property, the frequent remembrance of God, fasting, prayer and goodness towards the custodians.” [Mawsu’at Ahadith Ahl Al-Bait by Hadi An-Najafi, Volume 1 Page 282 Hadith 3]

الكليني، عن أبي علي الأشعري، عن محمد بن سالم وأحمد بن أبي عبد الله، عن أبيه جميعا، عن أحمد بن النضر، عن عمرو بن شمر، عن جابر، عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال: قال لي: يا جابر أيكتفي من ينتحل التشيع أن يقول بحبنا أهل البيت؟ فوالله ما شيعتنا إلا من اتقى الله وأطاعه، وما كانوا يعرفون يا جابر إلا بالتواضع والتخشع والأمانة وكثرة ذكر الله والصوم والصلاة والبر بالوالدين

Muhammad Ibn Muslim reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: ,,The ways will not carry you away, for, by God, no one belongs to our followers (Shi’ah) except the one who obeys God.“ [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 2 Page 73 Hadith 1]

علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن أحمد بن محمد بن أبي نصر، عن محمد أخي عرام، عن محمد بن مسلم، عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال: لا تذهب بكم المذاهب فوالله ما شيعتنا إلا من أطاع الله عز وجل

Jabir reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: ,,Our followers are those who obey God.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, volume 65 page 153 Hadith 7]

عن أبي عمرو، عن ابن عقدة، عن أحمد بن يحيى، عن جعفر بن عنبسة، عن إسماعيل بن أبان، عن مسعود بن سعد، عن جابر، عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال: إنما شيعتنا من أطاع الله عز وجل

Al-Laithi reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,Put our followers to the test on three things: the times for prayer, how they maintain them, with their secrets which are entrusted to them, how they guard them from our enemies, and with their property in helping their brothers.“ [Al-Khisal of As-Saduq, page 103 Hadith 62]

حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى العطار رضي الله عنه. عن أبيه، عن محمد بن – أحمد، عن هارون بن مسلم، عن الليثي، عن جعفر بن محمد عليهما السلام قال: امتحنوا شيعتنا عند ثلاث: عند مواقيت الصلاة كيف محافظتهم عليها، وعند أسرارهم كيف حفظهم لها عند عدونا، وإلى أموالهم كيف مواساتهم لاخوانهم فيها

Mufaddal reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,The followers of Ali (a.) are those who keep their stomachs and their shame chaste and pure and increase in their efforts. They work for their Creator, hope for His reward and fear His punishment. When you see such people, they are the followers of Ja’far (a.).“[Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah of Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 1 Page 86 – 87 Hadith 7]

وعنه، عن أحمد بن محمد، عن محمد بن إسماعيل، عن منصور بزرج، عن مفضل، قال: قال أبو عبد الله عليه السلام: إياك والسفلة، فإنما شيعة علي عليه السلام من عف بطنه وفرجه، واشتد جهاده، وعمل لخالقه، ورجا ثوابه، وخاف عقابه، فإذا رأيت أولئك فأولئك شيعة جعفر

Muhammad Ibn Ishaq Ath-Tha’labi reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,We are the best creatures that God created and our followers are the best creatures of God from the nation of His Prophet (s.).“[Ghaiat-ul-Maram of Al-Bahrani, Volume 5 Page 17 – 18 Hadith 11]

الشيخ في أماليه قال: أخبرنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن محمد بن النعمان قال: حدثنا أبو بكر محمد بن عمر الجعاني قال: حدثني جعفر بن محمد بن سليمان بن الفضل قال: حدثنا داود بن رشده قال: حدثني محمد بن إسحاق الثعلبي الموصلي أبو نوفل قال: سمعت جعفر بن محمد عليه السلام يقول: نحن خيرة الله من خلقه وشيعتنا خيرة الله من أمة نبيه

Amr Ibn Abi l-Miqdam reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,You are the ones about whom God said: ,,And We take away what may be in their breasts of grudge, so that they may rest like brethren on couches, facing one another.” (15:47) Our followers are the owners of four eyes: Two in their heads and two in their hearts. All those creatures are alike, except that God opened your eyes and blinded their eyes.” [Tafsir-ul-Ayyashi, Volume 2, page 244 Hadith 23]

عن عمرو بن أبي المقدام عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: قال: سمعته يقول: أنتم والله الذين قال الله ونزعنا ما في صدورهم من غل اخوانا على سرر متقابلين إنما شيعتنا لا أصحاب الأربعة الأعين عينين في الرأس وعينين في القلب ألا والخلائق كلهم كذلك الا أن الله فتح أبصاركم وأعمى أبصارهم

Murazim reported that Imam Al-Kazim (a.) said: ,,O Murazim, he is not one of our followers whose heart showed no piety when he was alone.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Vol. 48 Page 45 Hadith 26]

سلمة بن الخطاب، عن عبد الله بن محمد، عن عبد الله بن القاسم ابن الحارث البطل، عن مرازم قال: قال أبو الحسن (الكاظم) عليه السلام: يا مرازم ليس من شيعتنا من خلا ثم لم يرع قلبه

Husain Ibn Khalid reported that Imam Ar-Rida (a.) said: ,,Our followers surrender completely to our commands and obey our word. They are the enemies of our enemies and whoever is not, is not one of us.“ [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Vol. 65 page 167 Hadith 24]

ومنه: عن أبيه، عن علي، عن أبيه، عن علي بن معبد، عن الحسين بن خالد، عن الرضا عليه السلام قال: شيعتنا المسلمون لامرنا الآخذون بقولنا، المخالفون لأعدائنا، فمن لم يكن كذلك فليس منا

Ibn Abi Najran reported that Imam Ar-Rida (a.) said: ,,He who opposes our followers has opposed us and he who is close to them is close to us, for they were created by us and from our clay. He that loved them is from us, and he that hated them is not from us. Our followers look through the light of God and are received into the mercy of God, and they are the successful ones through the glory of God. None of our followers get sick without us getting sick and none of our followers get sad without us getting sad and none of our followers are happy without us being happy. None of our followers are hidden from us, whether in the east or the west of the earth. Whoever leaves a debt to one of our followers he does so to us and whoever leaves the property to one of them, he is his heir. Our followers are those, who do the prayer, pay the alms, make their pilgrimage to the Holy House, fast in the month of Ramadan, who are close to the people of the House and who distance themselves from their enemies. These are the people of faith and piety. These are the people of righteousness and fear of God. He who rejected them rejected God, and he who fought them fought me, for they are the true servants of God and His true loved ones. By God, one of them intercedes for the number of sons of Rabi’ah and Mudar, and since God honors them, God grants them his leading speech.“ [Sifat-ush-Shi’ah of As-Saduq, page 3-4]

أبى رحمه الله قال حدثني عبد الله بن جعفر عن أحمد بن محمد عن ابن أبي نجران، قال سمعت أبا الحسن (الرضا) عليه الصلاة والسلام يقول: من عادى شيعتنا فقد عادانا ومن والاهم فقد والانا لأنهم منا خلقوا من طينتنا من أحبهم فهو منا ومن أبغضهم فليس منا، شيعتنا ينظرون بنور الله ويتقلبون في رحمه الله ويفوزون بكرامة الله ما من أحد شيعتنا يمرض إلا مرضنا لمرضه ولا اغتم إلا اغتممنا لغمه، ولا يفرح إلا فرحنا لفرحه ولا يغيب عنا أحد من شيعتنا أين كان في شرق الأرض أو غربها ومن ترك من شيعتنا دينا فهو علينا، ومن ترك منهم مالا فهو لورثته، شيعتنا الذين يقيمون الصلاة ويؤتون الزكاة ويحجون البيت الحرام، ويصومون شهر رمضان ويوالون أهل البيت ويتبرؤون من أعدائهم أولئك أهل الايمان والتقى، وأهل الورع والتقوى، ومن رد عليهم فقد رد على الله، ومن طعن عليهم فقد طعن على لأنهم عباد الله حقا وأولياؤه صدقا، والله ان أحدهم ليشفع في مثل ربيعة ومضر فيشفعه الله تعالى فيهم لكرامته الله عز وجل

[2.] The false followers and the most miserable:

Muhammad Ibn Husain reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: ,,I praise Allah for His destiny, which He has decreed and (for what) He has predestined in deeds, for my testing with you, whom are a group that disobeys when I order something, and who do not answer when I call. When you are left alone, you pretend to enter the War, but when you are confronted with war, you fall into weakness. When men unite around an Imam, you abuse them, and when you are afflicted with hardship, you retreat. Woe to you! What are you waiting for to help yourselves and fight for your rights?There is death or humiliation for you. By Allah, when my Day (of my death) comes – and it will certainly come – it will separate me from you, and I am tired of your company, and i feel with you as with little helpers (even if you are with many). May Allah deal with you! Is there no religion that could unite you, or eagerness that could sharpen you? Is it not strange, that Muawiya calls the people rough and harshly and they (still) follow him, without him giving them enough resources and material, while I call you, while you are the followers of Islam and the (worthy) survivors – with means and distributed material, you then scatter from me and resist me? Truly there is nothing of me, that comes to you with which I am content, with which you are also content, or nothing with which I am enraged and with which you are united against. Truly, the one who is most dear to me to meet him is death! I have already taught you the Book, and have established for you the arguments, I have made known to you that which you denied (before), and have made pleasant to you that which you spat out (the Trunk of Truth). Even a blind man would have noticed it, or a sleeping man would have woken up. How close are their leaders to the people in their ignorance about Allah, and their teacher, Ibn-un-Nabighah.“[Nahj-ul-Balaghah by Ash-Sharif Ar-Radi, Volume 2 Pages 100-101]

عن محمد بن الحسين بن موسى رضوان الله عليه أن أمير المؤنين عليه السلام قال: أحمد الله على ما قضى من أمر وقدر من فعل، وعلى ابتلائي بكم أيها الفرقة التي إذا أمرت لم تطع، وإذا دعوت لم تجب. إن أمهلتم خضتم وإن حوربتم خرتم. وإن اجتمع الناس على إمام طعنتم. وإن أجبتم إلى مشاقة نكصتم. لا أبا لغيركم ما تنتظرون نصركم والجهاد على حقكم؟. الموت أو الذل لكم. فوالله لئن جاء يومي – وليأتيني – ليفرقن بيني وبينكم وأنا لصحبتكم قال وبكم غير كثير. لله أنتم. أما دين يجمعكم؟ ولا حمية تشحذكم؟ أوليس عجبا أن معاوية يدعو الجفاة الطغام فيتبعونه على غير معونة ولا عطاء. وأنا أدعوكم – وأنتم تريكة الاسلام وبقية الناس – إلى المعونة وطائفة من العطاء فتفرقون عني وتختلفون علي. إنه لا يخرج إليكم من أمري رضى فترضونه ولا سخط فتجتمعون عليه وإن أحب ما أنا لاق إلى الموت. قد دارستكم الكتاب وفاتحتكم الحجاج، وعرفتكم ما أنكرتم، وسوغتكم ما مجعتم، لو كان الأعمى يلحط أو النائم يستيقظ. وأقرب بقوم من الجهل بالله قائدهم معاوية، ومؤدبهم ابن النابغة

Muhammad Ibn Husain reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: ,,How long should I treat you with consideration, like a young camel is treated with a hollow hump or like worn rags which, when mended on one side, tear (again) on the other. Every time any troop of Syrians shows up, every man of you closes his door and hides like a lizard hiding in its hole or like a hyena in its burrow. By Allah, the one whom you support is the humiliated one! And whoever of you is being fired upon will be fired upon with arrows without head and point. By Allah, in the courtyards you are numerous, but under the banners you are few. Verily I know what can correct you and straighten out your crookedness. But I do not see your improvement in the ruin of myself. May Allah cover your faces with shame and diminish your share (in happiness)! You do not know the Truth, as you know the False, and you do not reject the False, as you reject the Truth.” [Nahj-ul-Balaghah of Ash-Sharif Ar-Radi, Volume 1, page 117 – 118 Sermon No. 69]

عن محمد بن الحسين بن موسى رضوان الله عليه أن أمير المؤنين عليه السلام قال: كم أداريكم كما تدارى البكار العمدة والثياب المتداعية كلما حيصت من جانب تهتكت من آخر أكلما أطل عليكم منسر من مناسر أهل الشام أغلق كل رجل منكم بابه وانجحر انجحار الضبة في جحرها والضبع في وجارها الذليل والله من نصرتموه. ومن رمي بكم فقد رمي بأفوق ناصل وإنكم والله لكثير في الباحات قليل تحت الرايات. وإني لعالم بما يصلحكم ويقيم أودكم ولكني لا أرى إصلاحكم بإفساد نفسي. أضرع الله خدودكم وأتعس جدودكم لا تعرفون الحق كمعرفتكم الباطل. ولا تبطلون الباطل كإبطالكم الحق

Zaid Al-Juhani reported that he came to Imam Al-Hasan (a.) when he was attacked and wounded and said: ,,O Son of the Messenger of God, what did you see? People are confused.” Imam Al-Hasan (a.) said: “By God, I see that Mu’awiyah is better for me than these people who claim to be my followers. They tried to kill me, they snatched my valuables and confiscated my property. By God, making an agreement with Mu’awiyah that protects my blood and that keeps my people safe is better than them killing me and that the people of my house and my people lose me. By God, if I were to fight against Mu’awiyah, then they would catch me by the neck without resistance until I was delivered to him.” [Al-Ihtijaj by Abu Mansur At-Tabarsi, Volume 2 Page 10]

عن زيد بن وهب الجهني قال: لما طعن الحسن بن علي عليهما السلام بالمدائن أتيته وهو متوجع فقلت: ما ترى يا ابن رسول الله فان الناس متحيرون؟ فقال: أرى والله معاوية خيرا لي من هؤلاء، يزعمون أنهم لي شيعة ابتغوا قتلي وانتهبوا ثقلي، وأخذوا مالي، والله لأن آخذ من معاوية عهدا أحقن به دمي وآمن به في أهلي خير من أن يقتلوني فتضيع أهل بيتي، وأهلي، والله لو قاتلت معاوية لأخذوا بعنقي حتى يدفعوني إليه سلما

Salam Ibn Sa’id reported that Aslam, the servant of Muhammad Ibnu l-Hanafiyyah (a.), said: ,,I sat with Abu Ja’far Al-Baqir (a.) and leaned my back against the source of Zamzam. Muhammad Ibn Abdillah Ibn Hasan stopped by and walked around the house. Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “O Aslam, do you know this young man?” I answered, “Yes, this is Muhammad Ibn Abdillah Ibn Hasan.” He said: “He will go out and be killed in a devastated condition. O Aslam, do not tell anyone of this tradition, for it is your entrusted good! But I reported it to Ma’ruf Ibn Kharbudh and I took from him the promise which was taken from me. Then we were at noon with Imam Al-Baqir (a.) and at night four of the inhabitants of Mecca were present. Ma’ruf then asked him about this tradition and said: “Tell me about this tradition that he had told me! I would like to hear it from yourself.” He said: “I looked at Aslam and Aslam told him: “My life be sacrificed to you, I took from him the promise which you had took from me.” Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “If all these people were our followers, three quarters of them would be in doubt about us and the other quarter would be mindless.” [Ikhtiyar Ma’rifat Ar-Rijal of At-Tusi; Volume 2, page 459 Hadith 359]

حدثني حمدويه قال حدثني أيوب بن نوح قال حدثنا صفوان بن يحيى عن عاصم بن حميد عن سلام بن سعيد الجمحي قال حدثنا أسلم مولى محمد بن الحنفية قال : كنت مع أبي جعفر عليه السلام جالسا مسندا ظهري إلى زمزم فمر علينا محمد بن عبد الله بن الحسن و هو يطوف بالبيت فقال أبو جعفر يا أسلم أتعرف هذا الشاب قلت نعم هذا محمد بن عبد الله بن الحسن قال أما إنه سيظهر و يقتل في حال مضيعة ثم قال يا أسلم لا تحدث بهذا الحديث أحدا فإنه عندك أمانة قال فحدثت به معروف بن خربوذ و أخذت عليه مثل ما أخذ علي قال و كنا عند أبي جعفر عليه السلام غدوة و عشية أربعة من أهل مكة فسأله معروف عن هذا الحديث فقال أخبرني عن هذا الحديث الذي حدثنيه فإني أحب أن أسمعه منك قال فالتفت إلى أسلم فقال له أسلم جعلت فداك إني أخذت عليه مثل الذي أخذته علي قال فقال أبو جعفر عليه السلام لو كان الناس كلهم لنا شيعة لكان ثلاثة أرباعهم لنا شكاكا و الربع الآخر أحمق

Muhammad Ibn Umar Ibn Hanzalah reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,No one belongs to (being) our followers, who says it with his tongue and contradicts us regarding our deeds and traditions. Rather, the tongue and the heart of our followers are in agreement with us and they follow our traditions and act according to our deeds. These are our followers.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Vol. 65 page 164 Hadith 13]

السرائر: من كتاب أبي القاسم بن قولويه، عن محمد بن عمر بن حنظلة قال: قال أبو عبد الله عليه السلام: ليس من شيعتنا من قال بلسانه وخالفنا في أعمالنا وآثارنا ولكن شيعتنا من وافقنا بلسانه وقلبه، واتبع آثارنا وعمل بأعمالنا، أولئك شيعتنا

Mufaddal Ibn Umar reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,That one, is a liar who claims to be one of our followers while holding on to a different handle than ours.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah of Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 27 Page 117 Hadith 26]

وعن محمد بن علي ماجيلويه، عن عمه، عن محمد ابن أبي القاسم عن محمد بن سنان، عن المفضل بن عمر قال: قال الصادق عليه السلام كذب من زعم أنه من شيعتنا، وهو متمسك بعروة غيرنا

Muhammad Ibn Idris reported that they said to Imam As-Sadiq (a.): ,,There is someone, who has love for you, but he is weak, when it comes to the dissociation from your enemies.” He said: ,,Far from it! That man is a liar who claims to love us while he does not dissociate himself from our enemies.” [Mustatrafat-us-Sara’ir by Al-Hilli, page 640]

عن محمد بن إدريس عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليهما السلام أنه قيل له: ان فلانا يواليكم، إلا أنه يضعف عن البراءة من عدوكم، قال هيهات، كذب من ادعى محبتنا ولم يتبرأ من عدونا

Dawud Ibn Husain reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,God did not give anyone a choice so that they could follow others instead of us. Whoever agrees with us rejects our enemy and whoever agrees with or follows our enemy and his view does not belong to us and we do not belong to him.” [Wasa’il-ush-Shi’ah of Al-Hurr Al-Amili, Volume 27 Page 119 Hadith 33]

وعنه عن محمد بن الحسن، عن الصفار، عن أحمد ابن محمد، عن ابن أبي عمير، عن داود بن الحصين، عمن ذكره، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: والله ما جعل الله لأحد خيرة في اتباع غيرنا، وأن من وافقنا خالف عدونا، ومن وافق عدونا في قول، أو عمل فليس منا ولا نحن منهم

Umarah reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,The one, who denies four matters is not from among our followers: The Ascension of the Prophet, the interrogation in the tomb, the creation of Paradise and Fire and the intercession.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 18 Page 311 – 312 Hadith 22]

كتاب صفات الشيعة للصدوق رحمه الله عن القطان عن السكري، عن الجوهري، عن ابن عمارة، عن أبيه قال: قال الصادق عليه السلام ليس من شيعتنا من أنكر أربعة أشياء: المعراج، والمسائلة في القبر وخلق الجنة والنار، والشفاعة

Ibrahim Al-Karkhi reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,Whoever claims this affair for someone, is worse than the Jews, Nazarenes, Zoroastrians, and those who worship idols beside God.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Vol. 65 page 166 Hadith 19]

عن حمدويه، عن يعقوب بن يزيد، عن ابن أبي عمير، عن إبراهيم الكرخي، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام: قال: إن ممن ينتحل هذا الامر لمن هو شر من اليهود والنصارى والمجوس والذين أشركوا

Mufaddal Ibn Umar reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,If our Riser (Qaim) would appear, he would start with the liars among the followers and kill them.” [Ikhtiyar Ma’rifati r-Rijal of At-Tusi, Volume 2 Page 589 Hadith 533]

حمدويه، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عيسى، عن يونس بن عبد الرحمن، عن يحيى الحلبي، عن المفضل بن عمر، قال: سمعت أبا عبد الله عليه السلام يقول: لو قام قائمنا بدأ بكذابي الشيعة فقتلهم

Musa Al-Kazim (a.) reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,God sent no sign down upon the hypocrites except that it was also sent down upon those who pretend to be our followers.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Vol. 65 page 166 Hadith 20]

عن خالد بن حماد، عن الحسن بن طلحة رفعه، عن محمد بن إسماعيل، عن علي بن زيد الشامي قال: قال أبو الحسن عليه السلام: قال أبو عبد الله عليه السلام: ما أنزل الله سبحانه وتعالى آية في المنافقين إلا وهي فيمن ينتحل التشيع

Musa Al-Wasiti reported that Imam Al-Kazim (a.) said: ,,If I were to describe my followers, I would find them only as talkers, and if I were to test them, I would find them only as apostates, and if I were to examine them, only one in a thousand of them would exist, and if I were to sort them out, none would remain except the one that belongs to me. They lean on resting mats and say: We are the followers of Ali. But a follower of Ali (a.) confirms his word by his deeds.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Vol. 8 Page 228 Hadith 290]

وبهذا الاسناد، عن محمد بن سليمان، عن إبراهيم بن عبد الله الصوفي قال: حدثني موسى بن بكر الواسطي قال: قال لي أبو الحسن عليه السلام لو ميزت شيعتي لم أجدهم إلا واصفة ولو امتحنتهم لما وجدتهم إلا مرتدين ولو تمحصتهم لما خلص من الألف واحد ولو غربلتهم غربلة لم يبق منهم إلا ما كان لي إنهم طال ما اتكوا على الأرائك، فقالوا: نحن شيعة علي، إنما شيعة علي من صدق قوله فعله
