Love for the companions of the Prophet (S)

Question:

Is the love for the faithful companions of the Prophet (s.) an obligation?

Answer:

Sulaiman Ibn Mihran reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “The love for the believers who after their Prophet (s.) did not introduce any changes or falsifications, like to Salman Al-Farisi, Abu Dharr Al-Ghifari, Al-Miqdad Ibn Al-Aswad Al-Kindi, Ammar Ibn Yasir, Jabir Ibn Abdillah Al-Ansari, Hudhaifah Ibn Al-Yaman, Abu Al-Haitham Ibn At-Taihan, Sahl Ibn Hunaif, Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari, Abdullah Ibn As-Samit, Abadah Ibn As-Samit, Khuzaimah Ibn Thabit (the owner of the two testimonies), Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri and to those who go in their direction and accomplish their work and love for those who follow them and imitate them and their guidance, is fixed.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 27 page 52 Hadith 2]

عن سليمان بن مهران عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليهما السلام أنه قال: والوَلاية للمؤمنين الذين لم يغيروا ولم يبدلوا بعد نبيهم صلى الله عليه وآله واجبة، مثل سلمان الفارسي وأبي ذر الغفاري والمقداد بن الأسود الكندي وعمار بن ياسر و جابر بن عبد الله الأنصاري وحذيفة بن اليمان وأبي الهيثم بن التيهان وسهل بن حنيف وأبي أيوب الأنصاري وعبد الله بن الصامت وعبادة بن الصامت وخزيمة بن ثابت ذي الشهادتين وأبي سعيد الخدري ومن نحا نحوهم وفعل مثل فعلهم والولاية لاتباعهم والمقتدين بهم وبهداهم واجبة

Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “The one who is the most steadfast among you on the (straight) path is the one who is the most fierce among you in his love for the people of my house and my (faithful) companions.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 27 page 133 Hadith 128]
