Abstaining from meat?

Question:

What does the messenger (s.) say about abstaining from meat?

Answer:

Abu Dawud Al-Mustariq reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: “Three women came before the Messenger (s.), whereupon one of them said: “My husband does not eat meat!” Another said: “My husband does not have a nice smell!” Another said: “My husband does not approach women!” Then the messenger went out and put on his robe until he climbed up into the pulpit. Then he praised and glorified Allah, saying: “What is the matter with some of my companions? Neither do they eat meat, nor smell pleasant perfumes, nor do they engage with women!” But i eat meat, scent beautiful fragrances and engage with women, and whoever turns away from my Sunnah does not belong to me!” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 5 Page 496 Hadith 5]

الحسين بن محمد، عن معلى بن محمد، عن أبي داود المسترق، عن بعض رجاله، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: إن ثلاث نسوة أتين رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله فقالت إحداهن: إن زوجي لا يأكل اللحم، وقالت الأخرى: إن زوجي لا يشم الطيب، وقالت الأخرى: إن زوجي لا يقرب النساء، فخرج رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله يجر رداء، حتى صعد المنبر فحمد الله وأثنى عليه، ثم قال: ما بال أقوام من أصحابي لا يأكلون اللحم ولا يشمون الطيب ولا يأتون النساء، أما إني آكل اللحم وأشم الطيب وآتي النساء فمن رغب عن سنتي فليس مني
