Zain-ul-Abidin on whether Abu Talib was a believer

Abd-ul-Hamid Ibn Taqi reported from Abu Ali Al-Muwaddih that Imam Zain-ul-Abidin (a.) was asked about Abu Talib:“Was he a believer?” And then he said: “Yes.” And they said to him: “Behold, here are people who claim that he is an unbeliever.” To which he said: “What a crookedness. Do they defame Abu Talib or the Messenger of God (s.)? God has forbidden him in several verses from the Qur’an to have a believer stay with an disbeliever and no one doubts that Fatimah Bint Asad was one of the foremost believers and that she stayed with Abu Talib until Abu Talib died, God has His pleasure in him.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 35, Page 115, Hadith 52]

عبد الحميد بن التقي عن أبي علي الموضح عن علي بن الحسين عليه السلام أنه سئل عن أبي طالب أكان مؤمنا فقال: نعم، فقيل له: إن ههنا قوما يزعمون أنه كافر، فقال: وا عجباه أيطعنون على أبي طالب أو على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وقد نهاه الله أن يقر مؤمنة مع كافر في غير آية من القرآن، ولا يشك أحد أن بنت أسد من المؤمنات السابقات، وأنها لم تزل تحت أبي طالب حتى مات أبو طالب رضي الله عنه
