Should one listen blindly to the doctors, since one is not an expert?

Muhammad Ibn Sinan reported that Imam Ar-Rida (a.) said: “I heard Musa Ibn Ja’far (Al-Kazim) and he complained about ailments. Then the doctors came to him. So they started to prescribe him strange things. Then he said: “Where do you let yourselves be taken to? Be content at the coming of summer with the master of the remedies: Myrobalanes, fennel and sugar. For three months long. Three times in each month. At the coming of winter three months long. In each month on three days three times and in place of fennel you put mastic. On this you do not fall ill, except from the disease of death.” [Tibb-ul-A’immah by Ibn Bistam, page 50]

الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ بِسْطَامِ بْنِ سَابُورٍ وَأَخُوهُ عَبْدُ اللهِ عَنِ السَّرِيِّ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ السَّرِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْأَرَمْنِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ سِنَانٍ عَنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُوسَى الرِّضَا صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُوسَى بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِمَا وَقَدِ اشْتَكَى فَجَاءَهُ الْمُتَرَفِّعُونَ بِالْأَدْوِيَةِ يَعْنِي الْأَطِبَّاء فَجَعَلُوا يَصِفُونَ لَهُ الْعَجَائِبَ فَقَالَ: أَيْنَ يَذْهَبُ بِكُمُ اقْتَصِرُوا عَلَى سَيِّدِ هَذِهِ الْأَدْوِيَةِ الْإِهْلِيلَجِ وَالرَّازِيَانَجِ وَالسُّكَّرِ فِي اسْتِقْبَالِ الصَّيْفِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَشْهُرٍ فِي كُلِّ شَهْرِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَفِي اسْتِقْبَالِ الشِّتَاءِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَشْهُرٍ فِي كُلِّ شَهْرٍ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ و يُجْعَلُ مَوْضِعَ الرَّازِيَانَجِ مَصْطَكَى فَلَا يَمْرَضُ‏ إِلَّا مَرَضَ‏ الْمَوْتِ

Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Khalid reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said to someone: “You have been made your own doctor. You were made aware of the disease, you were given knowledge about the signs of healing and you were shown the medicine. Therefore take care of yourself.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 2, Page 454, Hadith 6]
