He who took his inclination as his God (45:23)

“Did you see the one, who took his inclination as his God? And God misguided him with knowledge and sealed his hearing and heart and put a veil upon his sight. Who then guides him after God? Do you not think?” [Al-Jathiyah 45:23]

أفرأيت من اتخذ إلهه هواه وأضله الله على علم وختم على سمعه وقلبه وجعل على بصره غشاوة فمن يهديه من بعد الله أفلا تذكرون

Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud reported that Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “God said: ﴾Did you see the one, who took his inclination as his God? And God misguided him with knowledge and sealed his hearing and heart.﴿ Until His word: ﴾Do you not think?﴿ (45:23) And there is no one except a hypocrite, who has made his religion upon his inclination and his God upon his belly. Every time he desired the permissible and the forbidden, he did not resist: ﴾And they rejoiced in this life and this life is nothing but a commodity in the Hereafter.﴿” (13:26) [Al-Bihar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 74, Page 97, Hadith 1]

الحسن بن الفضل عن عبد الله بن مسعود عن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله قال: قال الله تعالى أفرأيت من اتخذ إلهه هواه وأضله الله على علم وختم على سمعه وقلبه إلى قوله أفلا تذكرون وما هو إلا منافق جعل دينه هواه وإلهه بطنه كلما اشتهى من الحلال والحرام لم يمتنع منه قال الله تعالى وفرحوا بالحياة الدنيا وما الحياة الدنيا في الآخرة إلا متاع

Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.) reported that Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “Whoever obeyed a creature in disobedience to God, then he has become a disbeliever and has taken a God besides God.” [Al-Bihar of Al-Majlisi, Vol. 10, page 364, Hadith 2]

الحسن بن علي عن علي بن موسى الرضا عن علي بن أبي طالب عن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله قال: من أطاع مخلوقا في غير طاعة الله عز وجل فقد كفر واتخذ إلها من دون الله

Someone told Yazid ibn Abdillah that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “Know, that God is the soft and Knowing. His anger is only on those, who did not accept His Good and He only denies those, who did not accept His bounty and He only misguides those, who did not accept His guidance.” [Al-Bihar of Al-Majlisi, Vol. 75, page 359, Hadith 2]

محمد بن يعقوب عن محمد بن يحيى عن محمد بن الحسين عن محمد بن إسماعيل بن يزيع عن حمزة بن بزيع والحسين بن محمد عن أحمد بن محمد بن عبد الله عن يزيد بن عبد الله عمن حدثه عن محمد بن علي الباقر عليه السلام قال: واعلموا أن الله تبارك وتعالى الحليم العليم إنما غضبه على من لم يقبل منه رضاه وإنما يمنع من لم يقبل منه عطاه وإنما يضل من لم يقبل منه هداه

Khaithamah reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said: “We are the path for those, who followed us and we are the guiders to the Paradise.” [Al-Bihar of Al-Majlisi, Vol. 26, page 249, Hadith 18]

محمد بن الحسن عن عبد الله بن عامر عن العباس بن معروف عن عبد الرحمان بن أبي عبد الله البصري عن أبي المغرا عن أبي بصير عن خيثمة عن محمد بن علي الباقر عليه السلام قال: ونحن السبيل لمن اقتدى بنا ونحن الهداة إلى الجنة
