Torah instead of Qur’an?
Question:
Some innovators claim that the Imam of the time (a.) would replace the Qur’an with the Torah. The source they cited is Al-Ghaibah by An-Nu’mani on page 157 and the 52nd volume of Bihar-ul-Anwar on page 351.
Response:
The servants of Umar lied!
Amr Ibn Shimr reported that Jabir said: “A man came in to Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir (a.) and said to him: “May God protect you, take these 500 dirhams from me. These are the levy from my wealth.” He said to him: “Take them and donate them to your neighbors among the members of Islam and to the poor among your Muslim brothers. When the Riser (Qaim ajf) rises from the people of the house, he divides it with justice and righteousness in the society. Whoever obeys him obeys God and whoever disobeys him disobeys God. He is called the Guide of Justice (Mahdi) because he guides to a hidden matter and he brings out the Torah and the other books of God from a cave in Antioch. He judges between the people of the Torah with the Torah and between the people of the Gospel with the Gospel and between the people of the Psalms with the Psalms and between the people of the Qur’an with the Qur’an.” The wealth of this world is brought to him from the inner and outer of the earth, whereupon he starts speaking to the people: “Come to that, to which you have cut the ties of kinship, shed innocent blood and committed deeds forbidden by God!” He hands over, what no one handed over before him and he fills the earth with justice and righteousness as it was dominated by oppression and injustice before.” [Al-Ghaibah by An-Nu’mani, page 242 – 243 Hadith 26; Bihar-ul-Anwar by Al-Majlisi, Volume 52 page 350 – 351 Hadith 103]
Even the reports of the Innovators include Jews being judged with the Torah.
Evidence:
Nafi’ reported that Abdullah ibn Umar said: “A man and a woman were brought to Prophet Muhammad (s.) from the Jews who were guilty of illegitimate intercourse. Thereupon he said to the Jews: “In what way do you deal with those of you who have had illegitimate intercourse?” They said: “We blacken their faces and humiliate them.” He said: “Then bring me the Torah, if you are truthful!” After that they came (with her) and said to a man in whom they were well pleased: “O one-eyed man, read!” He read until he came to a part of it, which he covered with his hand. He (the messenger) said: “Take away your hand!” He took away his hand and the verse about stoning was revealed. After that he said: “O Muhammad, we have been ordered to be stoned, but we have concealed it from each other.” Thereupon he (the Messenger) gave an order so that they both were stoned and I saw him (the man) protecting her (the woman) from the stones.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari, Hadith7104]
