Come to the debate if you’re a man? Dealing with self-absorbed loudmouths

It was reported that Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: ,,Whoever abstained from the disputation while being in the right, a place of abode was established for him in the uppermost part of Paradise, and whoever abstained from the disputation while being in the wrong, a place of abode was established for him in the suburb of Paradise.” And he (s.) said: “People were not misguided except that they established the dispute.” And he (s.) said: “From a servant, the truthfulness of faith does not reach completion, until he abstains from disputation, even if he is in the right.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 2, Page 138, Hadith 51-53]

روي عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله أنه قال: من ترك المراء وهو محق بني له بيت في أعلى الجنة، ومن ترك المراء وهو مبطل يبنى له بيت في ربض الجنة وقال صلى الله عليه وآله: ما ضل قوم إلا أوثقوا الجدل وقال صلى الله عليه وآله: لا يستكمل عبد حقيقة الإيمان حتى يدع المراء وإن كان محقا

Muhammad ibn Ali reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: ,,Whoever aspired to religion through dispute became a heretic (Zindiq).” [Al-I’tiqadat of As-Saduq, page 43]

محمد بن علي بن الحسين عن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام قال: من طلب الدين بالجدل تزندق

Muhammad ibn Hasan reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: ,,Beware of sitting on the roads.” And he (a.) said: ,,Practice self-control, beware of your companion, avoid your enemy and keep to the places of remembrance.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, vol. 72, p. 465, hadith 6]

محمد بن الحسن عن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام قال: إياك والجلوس في الطرقات، وقال عليه السلام: جاهد نفسك، واحذر جليسك، واجتنب عدوك وعليك بمجالس الذكر

Abd-ul-Wahid reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: ,,Disputation about religion ruins certainty.” [Ghurar-ul-Hikam of Al-Wasiti, page 63, Hadith 1221]

عبد الواحد بن محمد الآمدي عن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام قال: الجدل فى الدين يفسد اليقين

Anbasah Al-Abid reported that Imam As-Sadiq (a.) said: ,,Beware of disputing about religion, for it distracts hearts from the remembrance of God, evokes hypocrisy, causes resentment, and takes falsehood for support.” [Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, Volume 2, Page 128, Hadith 6]

عنبسة العابد عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليه السلام قالإياكم والخصومة في الدين فإنها تشغل القلب عن ذكر الله عز وجل وتورث النفاق وتكسب الضغائن وتستجير الكذب

Abd-ul-Wahid reported that Imam Ali (a.) said: ,,Not speaking to a fool is the best response to him.” [Ghurar-ul-Hikam of Al-Wasiti, page 62, Hadith 1204]
